Campus Celebrates Achievements, Contributions of Women

Update: The March 19 “Women Alumni in the Arts: Titans Reaching Higher” and March 21 “Women Veterans in Higher Education Conference: Connect and Empower” have been canceled.

The campus is celebrating the achievements and contributions of women during March’s Women’s History Month with events and programs, including a conference for female veterans, a panel discussion with accomplished women alumni in the arts and a talk about being a mother of color in higher education.

Campus events include:

  • Noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, “Motherhood in Academia,” at the Chicana and Chicano Resource Center in Pollak Library. The event features Judith C. Pérez, CSUF lecturer in educational leadership and Chicana and Chicano studies and a faculty member in the Office of First Year Experience. A co-founder of Chicana M(other) work Collective, she will share her experiences of being a mother of three in higher education. Her research areas include educational leadership, the first-year college experience, exploring Chicana/x and Latina/x racialized educational experiences and Chicana feminist thought.   • 4-6 p.m. Thursday, March 19, “Women Alumni in the Arts: Titans Reaching Higher” panel discussion in McCarty Grand Foyer at Clayes Performing Arts Center. Panelists are: Deanna Asato ’06 (B.A. art-studio art), production coordinator, Cartoon Network; Jennifer Frias ’14 (M.F.A. art-exhibition design), director of CSUF’s Nicholas and Lee Begovich Gallery; Stormy Gaylord ’19 (B.A. dance), FUSE Dance Company Inc.; and Marvella Muro ’99 (B.A. art), director of artistic programs and education, Self Help Graphics & Art.   • 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, March 21, “Women Veterans in Higher Education Conference: Connect and Empower,” Titan Student Union Portola Pavilion. The event features keynote speaker Jodie M. Grenier, chief executive officer at Foundation for Women Warriors, a nearly 100-year-old nonprofit that honors and empowers women veterans in their transition to civilian life. A panel discussion will feature student and Army veteran Tania Roa-Morales; alumna and Air Force veteran Amy Thronson; Cristina Garcia, program coordinator for Women Vets on Point; and Army veteran Carlia Old Father, director of Operations for StandUp for Kids.
