Aaron Aguilar, a Cal State Fullerton senior majoring in psychology, has been named the Cal State Student Association’s Shaun Lumachi Student Advocate of the Year.

Meet Erica Lizano, assistant professor of social work, whose research explores well-being, burnout and stress among child welfare workers. She is an alumna of Cal State Fullerton, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology and participated in the McNair Scholars program. Lizano earned her doctorate and dual master’s degrees at USC.

Jochen Schenk and his international collaborators found why plants can’t survive and function in the driest of soils, including the physical limits to the amount of suction plants can produce to move water up to their leaves. The researchers describe their findings in a new peer-reviewed study published April 27 in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Higher education leader Tonantzin Oseguera has been appointed to serve as Cal State Fullerton’s next vice president for student affairs, effective July 1. Oseguera, who joined the university in 2013, was selected for the top post following a national search.
