Forty-four students are graduating this year from Cal State Fullerton’s Abrego Future Scholars, a program that supports first-generation college students with scholarships and resources to help them achieve their educational goals and earn a college degree. The program is supported by the annual Hispanic Scholarship Golf Tournament, in which $100,000 was raised at this spring’s sold-out event.
Cal State Fullerton students, faculty, staff and community members came together May 7 to pack 165 “sweet cases” — decorated duffel bags stuffed with essentials such as hygiene products and blankets, as well as letters and even teddy bears. The bags will be donated to foster care organizations in the region.
Anneke Mendiola has been awarded the 2019 Betty Robertson Award from the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. At 82, she is graduating from Cal State Fullerton with two bachelor’s degrees.
