As the campus community enters LGBTQ+ History Month 2025 at Cal State Fullerton, the university takes a moment to reflect on the important milestones and individuals that have shaped the LGBTQ+ community.
October holds significant historical importance in the fight for LGBTQ rights. On Oct. 14, 1979, Steve Ault and Joyce Hunter organized the first National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. The second national march was held on Oct. 11, 1987, and to commemorate this event, activists Robert Eichberg and Jean O’Leary established Oct. 11 as the first National Coming Out Day in 1989. LGBTQ History Month was established as a national history month in 2009.
Founded on National Coming Out Day in 2012, the Losquadro Keller LGBTQ Resource Center provides a space to connect, access resources, gain support with coming out, and educational opportunities to further explore identities and issues that currently impact the LGBTQ community. Today, the LKQRC looks forward to hosting its inaugural Titan Pride Gala on Oct. 23, a signature evening of celebration, connection and community pride, honoring LGBTQIA+ student achievement, resilience, and cultural legacy at Cal State Fullerton.
As CSUF honors this history and continues working toward an inclusive and supportive campus, the university invites all members of the Titan community to engage with LGBTQ+ History Month programming. For more information and events, visit the LGBTQ+ History Month website.
