Titan Capital Management is pleased to announce that our CFA IRC Team won this year’s CFALA Investment Research Competition, making it the third consecutive win for our TCM program and for CSUF. The team will now advance to the West subregional round.
In the history of the CFALA IRC, there has been only one other school to win three consecutive times which was Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2014-2016. This is a great achievement for our kids and our program, who competed against seven other universities this year, which included 3 MBA teams (2 of them being UCLA and the other being Claremont). Loyola, Pepperdine, Cal State Northridge and Cal State Dominguez Hills were the other competing teams.
This year we have a four-person team which includes Team Captain Alexandra Mendoza, John Gomez, Connor Joe and Eira Tobrand. I was their faculty advisor and Derek Derman was their mentor. Credit goes to how hard these kids worked on this for the past several months and managed through Covid cases, work schedules and CSUF team sport commitments to be able to produce the quality of work needed to compete and achieve the win. Much credit also goes to Derek for his great mentorship and time spent with the kids. Thanks also goes out to the many alums who came to practices, board members who offered feedback, directors Shane and Marcia, and Jeff for his support of this team and helping us make it happen. I also want to thank Sri who has been very supportive of these CFA competitions and the value the experience brings to the students as well as the university.
