CSUF’s civil engineering geowall team has placed second in the nation for this year’s national Geowall Student Competition, beating out teams from UCLA, UC Davis, Cal Poly SLO and Cal Poly Pomona.
The CSUF team submitted their technical design report and were selected among 20 collegiate teams in the nation and were then invited to compete during Geo-Congress at Charlotte, NC.
Team members include James Pham, Brisa Bernal, Simran Batra, and Cindy Tran.
The objective of the GeoWall competition is to design and build a model mechanically stabilized Earth (MSE) retaining wall using paper reinforcement taped to a poster board wall facing. The design should strive to need the least amount of reinforcement to support the retained soil and design loads.
The student team is grateful to Terracon for providing generous financial support for them to prepare for the competition and cover the travel expenses for the contest.
