
Cal State Fullerton invites students, faculty and staff to its 2025 Southern California Primate Research Forum: Orangutans. The March 29 event will feature insightful discussions about orangutan conservation and will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in McCarthy Hall, Room 121.
Attendees will hear from multiple experts, including Gary Shapiro, president of the Orang Utan Republik Foundation; Frankie Onizuka, community relations manager for the Orangutan Conservancy; Eric DePalma, development and communications manager for Orangutan Conservancy; and CSUF alum Raffaella Commitante ’01 (M.A. anthropology), president of the Orangutan Conservancy. The speakers will explore communication, advocacy and the impact of conservation efforts.
The sessions include: “Hands Across the Canopy: Communicating With and Conserving Orangutans” from 9:15-10:15 a.m.; “The Orangutan Conservancy: Our History, Impact and Digital Advocacy” from 10:30-11:30 a.m.; and “How Lucky Can a Girl Get… Never Give Up” from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The event will conclude with a recognition of Commitante at 1 p.m.
This event is free and open to all.
