Cal State Fullerton is among the first universities in California to offer an accredited single subject teaching credential in theatre.
The new credential program was developed through a collaboration between the College of Education and the College of the Arts’ Department of Theatre and Dance. Led by Amanda Rose Villarreal, associate professor of theatre and dance, the program offers professional mentorship and pedagogical training for students who aspire to be theatre teachers in secondary school settings, opening up a new career avenue for theatre alumni.
The new single subject teaching credential in theatre is built to support theatre artists and alumni in bridging their craft to teaching careers, as well as support current educators who wish to expand their expertise and become credentialed by the state to teach theatre arts.
Prospective students can select the program when they complete their Cal State Apply application. The first cohort of students in the program will begin working toward their credentials in fall 2025.
