Nicole Seymour, Graduate Advisor for Environmental Studies and Associate Professor of English, will present a talk titled “Ecologies of Glitter” at the Environmental Studies Grad-Faculty Colloquium on Thursday, March 3, at 7pm on Zoom. Everyone in the CSUF community is invited to attend at: https://fullerton.zoom.us/j/83521762119?pwd=enQzeDRHQjBTQW5oUmVQMW1SYTdTUT09 (if prompted, passcode is 383915).
This talk will be drawn from Dr. Seymour’s new book, Glitter, with Bloomsbury’s “Object Lessons” series (https://www.bloomsbury.com/us/glitter-9781501373763/). She will discuss recent controversies over glitter’s role in plastic pollution as well as attempts to develop non-plastic, biodegradable glitter alternatives—many of which have been marketed to LGBTQ+ communities. Dr. Seymour thereby positions this seemingly-frivolous substance as a site for exploring contemporary environmental and cultural politics.
