Flexible Master’s Degree Programs Match Students’ Interests

Share This:

Earning a master’s degree is an academic goal for many students. Unfortunately, due to economic stress, personal or medical challenges, or other obstacles, many students are unable to move toward this goal. To address these concerns, Cal State Fullerton University Extension offers programs that are flexible and designed for student success.

CSUF University Extension celebrates five master’s degree programs in its Annual Impact Report. All of these degree programs follow a cohort model, which means that students remain together throughout all their courses. This creates a tight-knit community within the program that is great for learning, collaboration and networking. Students are taught by the same faculty who teach in-person courses, so they receive the quality education that CSUF is known for. Students also attend the same commencement ceremony as in-person students.

This year, CSUF University Extension celebrated 90 total master’s degree graduates. Students graduated from various programs, including the Accelerated M.S. in Software Engineering, Fully Employed MBA, Master of Social Work Flex, and the M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling & Marriage and Family Therapy.

“I wanted to join a professional degree program to help me understand the industry standards and practices of the software development lifecycle. The coursework of the Accelerated M.S. in Software Engineering program matched perfectly with my interests,” said Mayuri Kumbhare, an alum from the program.

Kumbhare credits James Choi, professor of computer science; Rong Jin, assistant professor of computer science; Wenlin Han, associate professor of computer science; and Chang-Hyun Jo, professor of computer science, for their support in shaping her career. Kumbhare said that the faculty shared internships and helped with projects.

University Extension’s newest program, Accelerated M.S. in Applied Computer Science, showcases more of these fantastic instructors.

“We created this program to provide students with the sufficient knowledge and skill that is required in the industry,” said Christopher Ryu, lead faculty coordinator and instructor in the program.
