Garden Flea Market Makes Whimsical Return to CSUF

Share This:

The Garden Flea Market is returning to Cal State Fullerton for a fourth year, with a brand new secret garden theme. Organized by CSUF’s Event Planning and Management class, the Secret Garden Flea Market will take place on Earth Day, April 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Arboretum and Botanical Garden at Cal State Fullerton.

The flea market will showcase a variety of student and local vendors offering everything from handcrafted baked goods and unique art pieces to vintage clothing and accessories. The event will also feature delicious food, live performances and music curated by Titan Radio. With Earth Day as the backdrop, guests will have additional opportunities to explore interactive garden experiences that honor the arboretum’s goal of fostering an appreciation for plant conservation and botanical research.

Abbey Miller, a student and creative director for this year’s flea market, said she loves the collaborative nature of the Event Planning and Management class and has enjoyed working on a real-life event that people can attend. Aspiring to a career in music management, Miller said the course has allowed her to grow creatively and gain a greater understanding of how to represent a client’s vision and goals through graphic design.

“It’s not just a project we’re imagining,” said Miller. “We all support each other, and being able to weave our work together to create something that people can actually enjoy has been really nice.”

Admission to the event is free. For more details about the Secret Garden Flea Market, visit the event website and follow its Instagram page. For more information about the Arboretum and Botanical Garden at Cal State Fullerton, visit its website.

The Event Planning and Management course offers students hands-on experience in planning and executing in-person events. Led by Jasmine Phillips, assistant professor of communications, the course allows students to manage all aspects of the Garden Flea Market at the Arboretum and Botanical Garden at Cal State Fullerton, from research and planning to execution and evaluation. The course offers additional sections that coordinate events such as Comm Week and the Newport Beach Film Festival. For more information, visit the College of Communications website.
