Share This:

Jiaqi Zhang, a student from Shandong University in China, joined the CSUF University Semester Abroad program, and had the opportunity to live and study in Orange County for two semesters.

In a recent interview, Zhang shared reflected on his experience: “I always longed to study in a multicultural academic environment, and the University Semester Abroad program at CSUF provided me with the perfect opportunity.”

Zhang said that his experience in the program was extremely memorable, and he appreciated how hands-on and interactive the classes were.

“CSUF professors possess profound academic expertise and demonstrate extraordinary dedication to teaching,” said Zhang.

Zhang was an exceptional student with a 3.96 GPA. He recalled the class he remembers most was the Foundations of Software Engineering course. Zhang said that his professor made the concepts accessible through his methodology and designed class projects that offered practical knowledge. He further mentioned how heartwarming it was when the professor celebrated with the students and brought donuts at the end of the course.

Since Zhang was in Orange County for two semesters, he was able to experience many local activities and attractions throughout Southern California. He shared his most memorable moment was a visit to the Getty Center, where he was able to see an original Vincent van Gogh piece.

After two semesters, Zhang returned to China and graduated. Given the warm welcome and positive impact CSUF had on his educational experience coupled with the positive experiences in Orange County, he has since returned to CSUF as a graduate student in software engineering.
