Retired Daily Titan Advisor Pledges Funds to Support Student Newspaper

Share This:

Student journalism will continue to thrive at Cal State Fullerton thanks to a recent pledge of $246,000 from Tom Clanin ’94, ’97, emeritus lecturer of communications, to support the Daily Titan student newspaper.

Clanin, a former journalist, was the Daily Titan adviser for six years from Fall 2002 to Spring 2008. During this time, he witnessed the Daily Titan‘s impact on his students and their future careers. Many of Clanin’s former students have gone on to careers in journalism, public relations, law, advertising, and numerous other professions that require exceptional writing skills and critical thinking.

Over the last 47 years of the Daily Titan, student editors have gained valuable leadership experience and exceptional writing and research skills. The Daily Titan editors dedicate countless hours to writing, directing, editing, and producing daily content, overseeing a staff of writers, photographers and videographers often under tight deadlines. This hands-on approach requires a significant commitment outside the classroom and is a full-time job for the lead editorial staff.

Tom’s gift will help financially support student editors and alleviate some of the stresses of working additional hours at an outside job to pay for school. The Tom Clanin Endowment, will continue fostering leaders and journalists through the Daily Titan for years to come.
