TitanWell to Host Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Training

TitanWell Health Promotion Services’ Substance Intervention and Prevention team will provide virtual and in-person opioid overdose response and naloxone training for students, faculty and staff this semester.

The opioid overdose response and naloxone training program began in response to the opioid overdose epidemic, both locally and nationally. TitanWell has trained more than 500 students and several departments’ staff, resulting in one reported reversal using naloxone.

The opioid overdose response and naloxone training consists of educating the Titan community about the signs of opioid overdose, the steps on how to assist someone with an overdose and how to administer naloxone to reverse opioid overdose. At the end of the training, CSUF students receive a naloxone kit consisting of two doses of naloxone and two fentanyl test strips at no cost. Uniquely, this year, faculty and staff can also participate on certain dates and receive naloxone kits thanks to a donation from OC Multi-Ethnic Collaborative of Communities Agencies.

In-person student training dates, times and locations include:

  • Oct. 9, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in front of the Humanities-Social Sciences Building
  • Oct. 23, 2-4 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center
  • Nov. 6, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. outside of the Kinesiology and Health Science Building
  • Dec. 3, 2- 4 p.m. at Titan walk
  • Dec. 4, 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. at Tuffy lawn

Virtual student training dates and times include:

  • Oct. 10, noon-1 p.m. Fill out the online form to register.
  • Nov. 21, noon-1 p.m. Fill out the online form to register.
  • Dec. 5, noon-1 p.m. Fill out the online form to register.

An in-person faculty and staff training will be held on Oct. 16 from noon to 1 p.m. in Pollak Library, Room 299. Fill out the online form to register. Space is limited to the first 25 people who register.

Virtual faculty staff training will also be available Nov. 7 from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom. Fill out the online form to register.
