CSUF University Extension celebrated 34 graduates who completed the Leadership Development for Public Agencies certificate program.
The Dec. 10 celebration event was hosted by Winnie Kang-Abreu, director of international and professional education for University Extension. Amir Dabirian, provost and vice president for academic affairs, shared an inspirational message with the graduates.
“This program exemplifies what can be achieved when public universities and public agencies unite with a shared purpose. Over the years, we have built strong partnerships with 36 agencies across Orange County and beyond. Together, we’ve grown this initiative into a meaningful and sustainable program that strengthens our regional workforce and cultivates leaders in public service,” said Dabirian.
The Leadership Development for Public Agencies program makes the most of University Extension’s partners. Graduating students represented multiple campus partners, including the cities of Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Downey, Fullerton, Mission Viejo and Tustin as well as the Inland Empire Utilities Agency, Irvine Ranch Water District, Mesa Water District, Municipal Water District of Orange County, OC Sanitation District, OC Transportation Authority, South Coast Water District and the Yorba Linda Water District.
“Our agency has partnered with Cal State Fullerton for years because we believe in investing in people. Leaders like you are the reason we do this. You’ve embraced the opportunity to learn, collaborate and grow, not just for yourselves, but for the communities you serve. That commitment speaks volumes about your character and your dedication to public service,” said Paul Cook, general manager of Irvine Ranch Water District.
The Leadership Development for Public Agencies program is ideal for working professionals who want to advance their careers. Since its inception, the program has graduated more than 700 students, and many are now leaders in public agencies.
Program benefits include leadership development and various training and networking opportunities. Public agencies select from their pool of employees to enroll in this program. Interested participants are encouraged to contact their organization’s human resources department to determine if they qualify for this opportunity.
