Faculty Perform, Speak in the U.S. and Abroad

Faculty members from diverse disciplines are making their mark across the U.S. and abroad via performances and presentations.

Cellist Bongshin Ko, professor of music, will perform at “Concert pour la Paix” — Concert for Peace — commemorating the Korean War, Sept. 27, at Paris’ Salle Gaveau. Ko, who performed in South Korea over the summer with a group of CSUF music students, will perform works by Antonio Vivaldi, Jacques Offenbach and David Popper with Michel Strauss, professor of cello at Paris Superior Conservatory of Music. 

Adam Golub, associate professor of American studies, delivered “Monsters on Screen: American Culture and the Monstrous” Sept. 2 at the Long Beach Indie International Film, Media and Music Festival. In July, Golub presented “Teaching Comics as Literature in the University Classroom” at the Comic Arts Conference, Comic-Con International in San Diego.

Ning An, assistant professor of music, gave a Sept. 22 master’s class at Lee University’s School of Music. An also was guest pianist at the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera program the same day.

Vanessa Diaz, assistant professor of communications, discussed her research on media, race and Cuban hip hop at a number of June events and workshops in Havana, Cuba. She began a yearlong leave this month as part of a Ford Foundation postdoctoral fellowship.

Bonnie Stewart, a lecturer in communications and the adviser for the Daily Titan, attended the May Dow Jones News Fund Multimedia Training Academy with Borderzine in El Paso, Texas.
