Can a roadtrip in a big, bright green RV answer the age-old question: What should I do with my life?

In the case of Cal State Fullerton students Genesis Garcia, Cesar Romero and Ranela Sunga, it certainly helped. In early 2020, the three Titans traveled throughout Southern California in “Mac” the RV, talking with accomplished CSUF alumni about their career paths. The experience was facilitated by Roadtrip Nation, an organization dedicated to helping people find career and life fulfillment.

Garcia, Romero and Sunga met with several Titan alumni, who shared their time and personal stories on navigating life after college:

  • Sathya Chey ’08 (B.A. business administration-finance), financial adviser, The Elliot Carlsen Wealth Management Group of Wells Fargo Advisors
  • Jill Hammons ’72 (B.A. English), director of membership, USS Midway Museum
  • Blythe Hill ’08, ’11 (B.A., M.A. English), CEO and founder, Dressember Foundation
  • Elizabeth Guerrero Macias ’95 (B.A. psychology and ethnic studies), judge, Superior Court of California, County of Orange
  • Victor Macias ’09 (B.A. business administration-entrepreneurship), co-founder and CEO, Nui Foods
  • Tam Nguyen ’05 (MBA), president and co-owner, Advance Beauty College
  • Tim Runco ’82 (B.A. political science), senior vice president of entertainment, Universal Studios
  • Chris Salomone ’06 (B.A., business administration-business economics), owner, Foureyes Furniture
  • Linda Woolverton ’79 (M.A. theatre arts), screenwriter, playwright and novelist

In the end, the three found that while there’s not one perfect path and it’s impossible to plan precisely for the future, finding their passion and staying true to themselves is what matters most.

As President Fram Virjee assured them, “If you’re worried that the road isn’t paved in front of you, you don’t need a paved road. You’re going to make your own road. You’re going to find your own way, doing it the way that makes your heart sing.”
