Cal State Fullerton to Compete in Secretary of State’s Ballot Bowl

University Kicks Off Efforts to Promote Voter Registration and Turnout Ahead of Nov. 5 General Election

To mobilize voter participation and civic engagement ahead of the Nov. 5 general election, Cal State Fullerton will once again compete in the California Secretary of State’s Ballot Bowl.

CSUF, which was crowned the Ballot Bowl champion in 2020, is encouraging its campus community to help bring back the title by registering or re-registering to vote between Aug. 12 and Nov. 5.

The California University and College Ballot Bowl is a friendly competition among California’s major higher education systems — including the California Community Colleges, California State University, University of California, and Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities — to register the most students, faculty, staff and community members to vote and showcase civic engagement efforts.

The university with the most voter registrations is crowned the Ballot Bowl champion. Titans must select Cal State Fullerton for their university affiliation in the online voter registration form to be counted in the competition. Paper voter registration forms with a specific serial number that credits CSUF can be picked up from the Pollak Library; Holly Housing Office; and Clayes Performing Arts Center, Room 101.

Those who miss the Oct. 21 deadline to register online and by paper registration can still register to vote through same-day voter registration. This process must be done in-person at the Orange County Registrar of Voters’ office in Santa Ana or at any vote center. The Titan Student Union will be a vote center between Nov. 2-5.

Upcoming Election Events

In addition to encouraging students, faculty staff and community members to register to vote and cast their ballots in the November election, CSUF will host several events this fall to educate the campus community on a variety of issues.

The events will cover such topics as the propositions, polling and public opinion research, post-election analysis and how to engage in civil dialogue. Learn more at fullerton.edu/election.

CSUF’s Civic Engagement Working Group has been active since June 2020 with the mission of improving the campus climate for student political learning, discourse, equity, agency and participation in democracy. The group is co-chaired by Annie Yea, interim vice president for government and community relations, and Mary Becerra, director of Titan Health, and includes student, faculty and staff representatives from all campus divisions.
