Aaron Aguilar, a Cal State Fullerton senior majoring in psychology, has been named the Cal State Student Association’s Shaun Lumachi Student Advocate of the Year.

Meet Erica Lizano, assistant professor of social work, whose research explores well-being, burnout and stress among child welfare workers. She is an alumna of Cal State Fullerton, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology and participated in the McNair Scholars program. Lizano earned her doctorate and dual master’s degrees at USC.
The university has received the initial portion of funding provided by the CARES Act – funds intended to provide support to students as grants and aid – and is working through the process to deliver it to those who qualify.
While the university continues to explore options for students to walk across the commencement stage in the future, a virtual celebration is being planned to honor graduates in June.
Cal State Fullerton’s new “Global Ethnographies of Food” class is designed to introduce students to the culture and politics of global food production and consumption.
Cal State Fullerton plant biologist H. Jochen Schenk and his international collaborators found why plants can’t survive and function in the driest of soils, including the physical limits to the amount of suction plants can produce to move water up to their leaves. The researchers describe their findings in a new peer-reviewed study published April 27 in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
