As Cal State Fullerton kicks off Latinx Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, the university celebrates the rich diversity within the Latinx community. This month is not just a time to honor the histories and cultures of Latinx individuals, but also a time to acknowledge the wide-ranging backgrounds, histories and academic accomplishments of Latinx Titans.

CSUF was designated a Hispanic-Serving Institution by the U.S. Department of Education in 2004 for enrolling more than 25% Latinx students. Today, Latinx students comprise 52.3% of CSUF’s student population. The university celebrated HSI Week from Sept. 9-15.

Latinx Heritage Month commemorates the history of Latinx people from around the world. This period highlights the significant contributions of Latinx people throughout history, including activists like César Chávez and Dolores Huerta, who fought for the rights of farmworkers, and innovators like Ellen Ochoa, the first Latina astronaut. Their legacies inspire and remind the community of the ongoing journey toward equality and representation.

CSUF’s dedication to creating meaningful experiences for Latino/a/x and Chicano/a/x students is unwavering. However, these efforts are not carried out alone. This impactful work stems from the passion and dedication of staff, faculty and student organizations. They tirelessly advocate for their community, push for essential resources, and infuse the campus with energy and purpose through events and initiatives. Together, the campus community is committed to fostering a sense of belonging, empowering Latinx students and celebrating the invaluable contributions of people across Latinidades.
