David Danks, professor of data science and philosophy at UC San Diego, will visit campus Tuesday Feb. 27, as part of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences’ Passage to the Future speaker series. The event takes place at 3 p.m. in Pollak Library, room 130.
Danks’ research interests are at the intersection of philosophy, cognitive science and machine learning — and using ideas, methods and frameworks from each to advance understanding of complex, interdisciplinary problems. He has explored the ethical, psychological and policy issues around artificial intelligence and robotics in transportation, health care, privacy and security. He has done significant research in computational cognitive science and has developed multiple novel causal discovery algorithms for complex types of observational and experimental data.
Refreshments will be served.
