Through strategic partnerships with Cal State Fullerton’s academic departments and colleges, CSUF University Extension is making master’s degree completion more accessible.
For many students, their dream of earning a master’s degree is compromised by impacted schedules, family responsibilities and other life circumstances. By offering evening classes, part-time options and accelerated schedules, University Extension provides students a flexible way to advance their education.
University Extension master’s programs are also completed in a cohort format. This means participants follow the same class schedule as their fellow students, from the first semester all the way to graduation. This collaborative environment can foster accountability while offering valuable networking opportunities that can benefit students in their current careers.
Over the past year, nearly 1,200 students enrolled in graduate degree programs through University Extension. This included students enrolled in such programs the Accelerated M.S. in Software Engineering, Fully Employed MBA, Master of Social Work Flex, and M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy.
“AMSE is geared to educate software engineers who are excellent developers and also project managers. This program has attracted many international and domestic students who have worked in the software industry successfully after graduation,” said James Choi, professor and coordinator of the Accelerated M.S. in Software Engineering program.
A new program, Accelerated M.S. in Applied Computer Science, also launched this year and is currently accepting applications for fall 2025. Christopher Ryu, professor of computer science and coordinator of the Accelerated M.S. in Applied Computer Science program, said that the program “aims to educate students in becoming high-quality software application developers in areas greatly sought after by focusing on modern technologies and industry best practices.”
