Programs that support students interested in advanced degrees in the sciences and provide after-school mentorship and hand-on experiences, studies into minority health issues and student internships received more than $9 million in recent grants and contracts.
This July, 50 high school girls are enrolled in Project MISS, which gives students the opportunity to improve their math skills and problem-solving abilities, prepare for success in college, meet successful female role models, explore career options and more.
As he grew up in Zambia, Africa, Ash Patel, a member of Mihaylo College Dean’s Advisory Board, didn’t know he was going to be a banker, let alone the head of his own bank. “It was a surprise that I made my career in banking as that was not the original plan,” says Patel, who pursued a graduate degree in finance at Loughborough University in England. In the mid-1980s, he moved to California and got a job as a teller at Bank of America.
The third annual “Better Together: California Teachers Summit” on Friday, July 28, features CSUF alumni, who will present EdTalks, and Jill Biden, who will deliver the keynote address. Biden’s talk will be simulcast to CSUF and other sites across the state.
