Cal State Fullerton mechanical students are working on developing a novel system called “Wildfire Aversion by Forecast and Early Response System,” or WAFERS. By using smart drone technology, their goal is to predict wildfire spread and fight climate change.

Cal State Fullerton undergraduates Patrick Babb, James Barnett and Mitchell Kitazum, with guidance from faculty adviser John Sanders, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, designed their “Ultra Mega” safe and fun roller coaster for the University Physics Competition. The mechanical engineering majors earned a silver medal in the international competition for their adrenaline-defying design, finishing among the top 20% worldwide.

Cal State Fullerton’s Pollak Library is hosting noontime faculty talks this spring semester, featuring such topics as art theft to the secret life of a romance writer and superbugs.

High school students — mostly African American and Latino boys ages 14-17 in 9th-11th grades — spent the day at Cal State Fullerton’s fourth annual Male Youth Empowerment Conference. They listened to successful alumni and learning from campus and community leaders that college is possible.
